After qualifying in the seventh spot for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team looked to capitalize on the Windy City-event.
Maintaining position in the top 10 early in the race, Sadler relayed that the No. 11 Toyota was a bit loose going into the turns, but becoming extremely tight in the middle and exit of the turns. Through several scheduled pit stops, the Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew made several adjustments to help alleviate the handling problems.
When the caution flag dropped on lap 108 for debris on the track, crew chief Chris Gayle called Sadler down pit road for fuel and adjustments only, a strategy-call to save the last two sets of tires for the last part of the race.
Sadler restarted in the sixth position, but was shuffled back in the field as cars with fresher tires began to pass the No. 11. Getting ready to pit on lap 159, Sadler waved off the cars behind him as he slowed to enter pit road. The No. 24 car did not let up, slamming into the back of the OneMain Financial Toyota, causing significant damage on the rear and right-side of the car.
Throughout several pit stops, the Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew managed the damage, putting Sadler back on track in the 19th position, one lap down from the leader.
Sadler maintained the 19th position until the checkered flag dropped. In the Nationwide Series championship points standings, Sadler sits in the fourth position, 44 points behind the leader.
Elliott Sadler Quotes:
"This is such a disappointing finish for this No. 11 OneMain Financial team. We had a good run going here at Chicagoland Speedway, but unfortunately, got plowed into from behind when we were coming into pit. It’s a frustrating way to end a weekend after this OneMain Financial team worked so hard to get this No. 11 running well."
